Active Ingredients

The name Louis Widmer stands for highly dosed and therefore highly effective dermatological products. This would not be possible without innovative and dermatologically documented active substances. On this page, you will learn about the most important active substances that we use to protect and care for your skin.

Biostimulators-Complex

The unique Biostimulators-Complex is the result of intensive research and Louis Widmer's own development activities. As the signature ingredient, the complex, which combines nine carefully selected amino acids, is the basic ingredient in most of Louis Widmer's skin care products and acts as a booster for stronger, vital skin. It is highly effective, right into the deeper layers of the skin.

The biostimulants significantly and measurably moisturise skin after as little as 30 minutes. The complex also strengthens and regenerates the skin barrier and promotes cell vitality by improving cell regeneration and collagen synthesis.

Combined with another specifically chosen key ingredient, each product is highly effective in its unique way and tolerated well.

Hyaluronic acid

With increasing age, the body’s own hyaluronic acid in the upper layer of the skin (epidermis) continues to decrease. The skin also becomes dry, develops wrinkles and loses its elasticity.

Hyaluronic acid can be used as a valuable anti-ageing agent to prevent this. There are various types of hyaluronic acid which differ in their molecular weight. The smaller molecules are able to penetrate a little deeper into the epidermis where they improve the skin’s moisture retention.

The larger molecules lay on top of the skin where they immediately bind moisture and give the skin a smooth feeling. The hyaluronic acid stores the moisture and makes the skin feel satiny soft, fills in small wrinkles and gives the skin a youthful and fresh appearance.

Matrixyl® 3000

Natural peptide which promotes the synthesis of collagen and forms the structure of the skin tissue. It supports the reduction of wrinkles both in terms of depth and number (in vivo tests). Alternative to retinol and vitamin C. Matrixyl® 3000 can support the skin’s own moisture regulation and therefore improve the skin’s elasticity.

Matrixyl® 3000 is an anti-wrinkle agent which is a fragment of natural collagen (structure of the skin tissue). Matrixyl® 3000  is a component of the matrix proteins (bioactive matrikines / peptides, cell messenger substances) and is recognised immediately by the skin cells. It stimulates the natural regeneration of the extracellular matrix by acting like the fibroblasts (skin’s own repair processes).

The skin structure is strengthened and has more volume. Uneven areas and wrinkles are filled from the inside and are visibly reduced.

“We do not use any palm oil in our products. We request certificates / confirmation regarding the origin of natural materials, ingredients and excipients from all of our raw material and ingredient suppliers. This also includes the derivatives of controversial natural materials”

Dr. Beat Müller , Director of Research and Development

Panthenol

Panthenol strengthens the skin’s natural barrier and at the same time helps to ease skin irritation. Reddening and irritations heal more quickly as a result. Panthenol soothes irritated skin and improves its ability to retain moisture.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E (tocopheryl acetate) neutralises harmful free radicals in the skin, regenerates the skin barrier and stimulates the skin’s own repair mechanism. It also reduces skin damage caused by UV rays. It smooths the complexion and improves the ability of the stratum corneum to absorb water.

OM24

OM24 is a green tea extract made using specific methods (patented extraction method) with a catechin concentration of approximately 30% (catechins makes up around 70% of the flavonoids / polyphenols in green tea).

As an antioxidant (radial quencher), OM24 is around 200 to 1,200 times stronger than conventional green tea extracts, 350 times more active than vitamin E and 100 times more active than vitamin C. The extract supports the repair systems in the cells and regeneration of the skin layer at a deeper enzyme level.

It provides highly effective, anti-inflammatory night care with long-term protection against early skin ageing caused by light (photochemoprotection) and environmental stress factors.

Urea

Urea (also called uric acid or carbamide) is a valuable active ingredient for dry and irritated skin in plants and animals, it is an end product of the amino acid replacement in the urea cycle. In humans, it is found in the horny layer of the epidermis.

Urea plays a major role in the regulation of the water balance in the horny layer and accounts for around 7% of the natural moisture retention factors in healthy skin.

The main effects and properties of urea are: moisturises, retains water, antibacterial, quickly absorbes, stabilises pH value, smooths the skin, loosens dandruff and eases itching.
